Glams,
So I recently decided to try out the Senegalese Twist trend and I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship with them! It all started because I had two back-to-back trips planned (one business and one pleasure) and literally had two days in-between the two trips. What this meant for this hair-obsessed glam mom was that I clearly was not going to have time to get my hair re-styled and spend time with my son. Choices had to be made and this time it was my hair!
Now trust me, I am not new to braids. In fact, I rocked the box braids trend two years ago and totally loved them. My son was just eight months old at the time so I was clearly looking for a hairstyle that was super convenient but also had a little glam to it, which led me to give them a test run.
Fast-forward to now, and I decided that the braids would be the perfect solution to my hair situation and that instead of the box braids I would try out the Senegalese Twists as I had been seeing so many women rocking the trend and I just loved the way that they looked.
#Fail #Success
Those are the two words that can be used to describe my experience so far with these braids. It’s been almost a month and I can confidently say that I totally have a love/hate relationship with this particular hair style and here’s why:
They Save Me So Much Time
As a busy career mom I am always for those hair styles that will save me weekly trips to the salon. As a mommy who puts so much focus on where and with whom that she spends her time, these braids have been a life saver in this category. The time that I would have been spending in the salon has since been spent hanging out with my little guy. #Success
I Keep Losing Them
So after two days I started to lose braids! I literally have had to get the front of my hair re-braided and I’ve only had them for three weeks. As someone who is super-obsessed with her hair game this has caused me to quickly assess that these are a complete #Fail
They Motivate Me To Work Out
OK, so I have totally been slipping when it comes to hitting the gym. But since rocking these my gym game has been so much stronger and there really hasn’t been an excuse to not hit the stair master and break out with those squats and planks. #Success
They Really Aren’t That Glam
OK, as a self-confessed BlackGlamourMom (Yeah, I started this #glammom game!) I’ve decided that they really aren’t that glam, at least not for me! They just don’t fit with my overall style. My tailored suits just don’t feel right at the office and my cut off shorts and heels just aren’t the same! I can admit it, and that’s what makes life so great. #Fail
So Glams, the point is, my experience with Senegalese twists has been part success and part failure. I’m sure that plenty of you may have your own reasons as to why they worked and why they didn’t. I’m thankful that I tried them and now I know that I will probably never get them again.
Glams, we want to hear from you. Have you had Senegalese twists? Did you love them or hate them?
