Hoping you all had an amazing Memorial Day Weekend!
For me, the weekend was all about relaxation and time well spent with my husband, son and family. As we get the week going, I am thrilled to share with you that we will be launching a new content series, called “BlackGlamourMom Chats With.” This series is designed to introduce you to both Celeb Glam Moms as well as those moms that we don’t often hear about, but are clearly KILLIN IT when it comes to not only their role as mommy, but also as career women, mompreneurs, wives, sisters and a little bit of everything else mixed in-between. In a short, Q&A Style interview, we will touch on topics that will fuel responses that will motivate, cause you to think twice and hopefully share with your inner “mommy circle (of course, the circle outside of BlackGlamourMom that is!).
As you know, a big reason why I birthed this site was to create a space that celebrates us as moms, who by the way, also happen to be glam moms.
So of course, as I thought about how best to kick off this series, it should come as no surprise that the first interview would be creating an opportunity for each of you to learn even more about me, your chief content curator.
Let’ get started!
What do you love most about being a mom?
I love, love, love being able to look into the eyes of this little person who my husband and I brought into this world and who we have so much love for. I love being able to show him what love looks like. It just gives me so much life.
What’s the most challenging aspect of being a mom?
As a career mom, entrepreneur and wife, it’s just really hard being able to balance your time. It’s tough when you are constantly trying to prioritize your role as mommy, wife, daughter, sister and friend. The whole time factor and not being able to be there for everything, that’s tough.
How important was it for you to remain stylish, both during your pregnancy and post-child?
Oh wow, this site would not have been born if style didn’t remain important to me while I was both pregnant and thereafter! I think it’s important for our well-being as mothers to take care of ourselves while we are pregnant. We have got to make sure that we feel beautiful and yes, sexy while pregnant. I think if we feel confident in how we look, it only filters down to the confidence that we have in our role as mothers.
How has becoming a mom changed you?
It’s changed everything! It’s definitely made me a more patient person. It’s made me appreciate the little things in life more than ever. It’s also made me very protective of my space as I’m constantly aware of how my actions affect not only myself, but my son.
What are your favorite “Me Time” activities
My weekly appointment at the hair salon is one of my favorite “Me Time” activities. It is my time to recharge and just be by myself, knowing that I am also doing something that is going to make me feel good in the end. I also love to just sit back and read magazines when I can as well as have date nights with my husband. Yes, I am a firm believer in a weekly date night!
What do you enjoy doing with your son?
I love just hanging out with him in general. I love being able to travel with him and show him new experiences. I also love simply reading a book to him at night before bed. As an avid reader, I live for our night time story time. I also enjoy playing board games with him. There’s just something so electric about teaching him how to play a new game and watching him get really good at it.
Did motherhood make you more confident? How so?
Absolutely. It’s something about Motherhood that just made me feel like I was “unstoppable.” There’s just an attitude that you get, like, ‘Hey, don’t mess with me. I’m Jordan’s mommy.’ You also get this “take it or leave it” type of attitude. You realize that some of the small things that used to get under your skin, are just that, small things. Overall, I think being Jordan’s mommy has made me a COMPLETE BAD ASS!
Favorite beauty product?
I’m a beauty junkie! I’m that one mom that can go into Sephora and stay for an hour. I so remember my days when Jordan was still in a stroller and I would clearly be knocking people out with the stroller as we made our way down the skinny aisle ways! Right now one of my favorite beauty products is Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Collection. The Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost just keeps me coming back. Love it! Just love the way it makes my skin feel after smoothing it on. This is definitely one of my beauty fav’s right now.
In a Few Words, Describe Your Mommy Style?
Downtown Chic. I live for my skinny jeans, a leather biker jacket and a kick-butt pair of heels. I’m pretty simple overall and am not faithful to any one designer or another. I totally get dressed based on my mood, but you better believe I am always incorporating the GLAM!
How do you balance it all?
I don’t! Just kidding. No, I think it’s about figuring out what requires your attention the most at any given moment. I’m working really hard on being present, particularly when it comes to my interactions with my son and husband. I’m a firm believer in taking notes, planning and prioritizing your days. I definitely am one of those that live and die by my notes and my “Old School” planner.
So there you have it, the kick-off to our new series. I’m hoping that you enjoyed it and if you are interested in being featured or know someone who we should feature, please reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and include “BlackGlamourMom Chats With” in the Subject Line.
