Hello Glams,
So, I told you all earlier this week that the career aspect of my life has been in over-drive as of late. Last week I had an opportunity to attend the 2014 ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood event as part of my career duties. There’s always the career/family balance at play in my life!
As I was clearly attending an Oscar’s-related event in LA, I had to rock a look that was not only stylish, but above all else, professional. Even more important was the fact that this was a luncheon, which meant that I had to ensure that my look worked well for the day-time red carpet affair and allowed me to move around freely, as I was attending the event for business. As I’ve been to this event in the past, I was sort of dead-set on not rocking a dress this year. I mean every year I would run to BCBG, one of my favorite stops for dress shopping, and purchase an amazing dress! One year it was a yellow flowy number, the next it was a navy and cream dress, I’m telling you all, it has always been a dress. I originally had plans to order something online, however, due to my mommy duties, I totally got sidetracked and was left with only two days to pull my look together.
Now I clearly could have pieced together a fabulous look from my closet (You know us mommies sometimes have to work with the glam looks that we already have), but this happens to be one of my favorite events, so I had to make sure that I was wearing something that I not only loved but felt amazing in. So, on a bitterly cold Monday evening I braved the cold weather, son in tow, and headed out for a quick evening of power shopping. I hit all of my favorite shops inside of the mall, before heading into Club Monaco, one of my other favorite go-to retailers. Club Monaco has been killing the fashion game for the past few years. Whether you are on the hunt for a sexy pair of leather shorts or an amazing power suit, Club Monaco, is always my career dressing one-stop shop. Sorry, I digressed!
So upon arrival into the store, I grabbed five different dresses, as at this point in the game,I knew that I would be wearing a dress. I power-pushed my son into the fitting room as he is tossing cheese puffs out the side of his stroller, and began trying on the dresses. I finally slipped into the Celeste Sheath Dress and completely fell in love! I was loving the fit of the dress and the fact that it had a very sophisticated silhouette. It has some black faux leather detail with a bit of metallic-flecked navy paneling, it was hot and I felt like I looked hot! I also knew just the shoe that I was going to rock to take my look up a notch and insert a bit of my glamour-rocker style into the otherwise sophisticated look. After confirming with the brother/fashion partner in crime, I purchased the dress!
I paired the dress with one of my favorite pairs of Christian Louboutin’s, my Spike Wars Ankle Booties with the gold heels, and I knew I was in business!

All in all, I was pleased with my look. Although I swore I didn’t want to wear a dress this year, in my ideal world I wanted to wear a hot suit, I still think I landed on a great look for the luncheon. I felt great while working and was also comfortable, which is key when working a red carpet event. I loved the dress and the fact that I could easily wear this at other functions or into the office paired with a stylish blazer.
I would love to hear what you all thought about the look. Let us know in the comments section below.
Peace, Love, Heels & Strollers,
Michelle
